A Meeting within Historic Walls along the Porcelain Route
The symposium will be held on the premises of Porzellanikon, the European Industrial Museum for Porcelain and Technical Ceramics, in the city of Selb in Bavaria, Germany. Porzellanikon is a former Rosenthal factory which has been restored to its original condition. It is Bavaria’s first state-owned industrial museum and has all the down-to-earth charm of a former 19th century factory.
Idyllic Upper Franconia is located on what is called the “Porcelain Route” – a tourist-frequented area in Northern Bavaria which is also the heart of the world’s china manufacturing.
Experience Science and Culture in Symbiosis
Museums, factory outlets, specialty shops and manufacturers cover the entire spectrum of the stuff known as “white gold”. Many of the local attractions feature the industrial heritage, culture and nature in symbiosis with one another. World-famous brands like Rosenthal, Hutschenreuther, and Seltmann produce traditional china which is offered in more than 40 factory outlets and studios to this day.
Social Event in the Celebrated Cistercian Monastery
The social event on Tuesday evening will take place at Waldsassen Abbey, a Cistercian nunnery, close to the border with the Czech Republic. This basilica minor, built between 1128 and 1132, houses one of the most beautiful libraries in late Baroque and early Rocco style. After a tour through the basilica and the library, we will have dinner at the monastery’s restaurant.
